Short translation regarding the singer from Welcome to the New World! of Kirby and the Forgotten Land

So, sadly, a lot of things regarding the development and some tidbits of Kirby games are still exclusively revealed through the Nintendo Dream magazine. Recently the site of the magazine even started to block non-Japanese IPs, so you need to use a VPN located in Japan or be in Japan to access its site. So it’s really hard to access content from said magazine, now even if it was published on their own site!

This tidbit is a translation from part of an interview from the June 2022 edition that I happened to find a transcript for in this website. While the information here was not new to the English Kirby fandom due to Falco_Lau sharing a rough summary of what was revealed in said interview in late April, I wanted to translate it anyway to be easier to share, and also have the full quote regarding this. So, without further ado, here is the short translation.

―― Who is this NEICHEL who is singing?

Kumazaki: She is a fictional singer created for this work. It is the artist name of a diva who once existed in this world, but she is not anywhere currently in the setting of the story. Incidentally, her name is from ネイチェル, which means nature and fresh greenery in that world.

Translator’s note: left the original katakana text there because this word was never officially romanized to English and as usual it can be done in multiple ways. It can be read as “Neicheru”, but also as “Neichel” much like her name. ネイチェル is also used in the Japanese name of Natural Plains, ネイチェル草原, and is a corruption of “nature”, which in katakana would be written as ネイチャー, with ネイチェル trying to mimic the sound of “natural” pretty much.
